Government Shutdown & Road Closures

  • Blue Ridge Parkway: The road will remain open though its visitor centers, headquarters, picnic areas and restrooms will be closed
  • Great Smoky Mountains National Park: U.S. 441 from Cherokee to Gatlinburg will remain open but, the parkway, trails, campgrounds, picnic areas, visitor centers and parking lots will be closed.

Haywood County Arts Council presents Appalachia

Appalachia celebrates the many forms and techniques of art in the Appalachian region of North Carolina. An artist's reception will be held Friday, June 7 during Art After Dark from 6-9pm. For more information visit www.haywoodarts.org. The North Carolina Mountains has become a melting pot of Appalachian arts and crafts of the Appalachian region. The arts and crafts of the Appalachian region of North Carolina included many forms such as pottery, basketry, woodturning, and music. This culture is how the people of this region thrived. Haywood County Arts Council's exhibit, Appalachia, commemorates many of these forms and techniques. The featured artists of Appalachia includes: Doc Welty, Patti Best, Sandra Brugh Moore, James Smythe, Crystal Allen, Mike McKinney, Matt Tommey, Caryl Brt, Susan Balentine and Karen Stoner.

Civil War Commemoration

            The snowfall came fast here in Maggie Valley NC. Arrived back at Realty World-Heritage from Clyde NC at 2:15pm & there was no snow at all.. but the weather was cold.. then at about 3pm, it was white when we had peeked out the windows. Had to share a video of what accumulated at 3:15pm outside the office..
