Maggie Valley NC snowstorm creates great sledding

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHAKvTm9Y5M

The blizzard we had the week before Christmas had created great sledding areas all throughout the county. If you're visiting the area, Tony's Tube World, which is across from Ghost Town in the Sky is a great stop.. however as we drove on Hwy. 19 heading to Waynesville, we had to share the sight we saw passing this area, which created FREE sledding.. at least for a day or two, until the subdivision caught on & posted NO TRESPASSING signs..

There were so many parked cars at the entrance to the Campbell Woods subdivision which is at the corner of Hwy. 19 & 276N (across from the Maggie Valley Conference Center/BP gas station). They were having a blast...

Too bad, as we drove past this area today, the sledders didn't clean up their mess & left some of their trash on the subdivision's entrance..

Happy Winter all...

Snow Update

Just a quick note to let you all know that the snow is STILL sticking around. For the most part the main roads are open and clear although with the snow melt during the day and cold temps at night there have been many reports of black ice in the dawn hours. There is still about 6 inches or so of snow on the ground. Today is going to be mostly cloudy so we may not loose much snow cover. If you are heading this way bring your snow boots! Be aware that many secondary roads are still snow covered and impassable (unless you like to hike in the snow). Most areas have had powered restored, but there are a few still in the dark today. If you have specific questions about an area or neighborhood feel free to contact us!

We were in Maggie Valley up til Thursday and had to get home because our dog was in the kennel and had to be picked up by Friday. We would have loved to stay for the snow. Thank you for the video and pictures. It was beautiful. See you in the Spring.

Blizzard in Maggie Valley NC creates a beautiful white background in the mountains of Western NC

The weather in Maggie Valley yesterday was a whirlwind of snow.. snow.. & more snow.. Power was knocked out in several counties including us.. Yesterday was a day of cold & white wintry weather, however it was mixed with many kind gestures where this weather has united many.. Whether it be by helping a stranger get their car out of the ditch, or giving someone a ride home because their car couldn't make it up a hill, all in all the main goal was to HELP.

Here are a few pictures to give you an idea of what happened yesterday.. by the way, we would've posted these pictures & video sooner, however we were victims of the power outage too.... so here it is..

New Mexican Restaurant in Waynesville NC "El Pobre"

Had lunch today at a new Mexican Restaurant in Waynesville NC called "El Pobre". Apparently it's a branch off their Cruso location & it's pretty yummy. Their hours of operation is... Monday-Closed, Tuesday-Friday 11am-9pm, Saturday noon-9pm & Sunday 11am-8pm.

They offer several daily lunch specials from 11am-3pm ranging from $4.50 to $7.95. We tasted the Taquitos Mexicanos & really enjoyed it.. comes with one beef & one chicken with rice & guacamole... yummy! So if you're looking to try something new or need a quick lunch.. you should try them.. They have punch cards, & for every lunch special you buy & pay cash, you get an extra Pobre Man stamp... what an incentive. If you fill up your card with Pobre Man stamps, which is the 10th visit, you get a free meal.. (offer can't be used in combo with any other other coupon or offer by the way)

2009 Waynesville NC Christmas Parade December 7, 2009

Angie's Dance Academy performed an entertaining routine.

The Waynesville Christmas Parade held in Downtown Waynesville NC was a very cold night. It drizzled at times, but the crowd that gathered to watch the parade was entertained with beautiful & colorful floats, high school bands, plus great music. Not to mention the candy & stuffed animals that were passed out too.. between the Barber Shop Quartet singing, fire departments represented by Maggie Valley, Lake Junaluska, Waynesville, Canton & more, the night was a great success.

Here are some more clips of the evening just in case you missed it...
