55th Annual Pancake Day Waynesville NC

Yesterday, one of the longest running fundraisers in Haywood County NC took place to raise funds for the First United Methodist Church in Downtown Waynesville NC. They served breakfast items from 6:30am-7:30pm. Numerous volunteers throughout the day served bacon, pancakes, sausage, coffee, milk & water. It was a delight to be able to support such a fun event. When we arrived, the line was almost out the door. If it weren't for a good cause, we wouldn't have waited, thinking it would take forever to get our food. However, the volunteers behind the griddle were experts in moving the line fast. We only waited about 10 minutes before our first helping of sausage & bacon hit our plates. Once you've reached that area, then it's a breeze to your seat. Once you're seated, there is no need to get back up & in line to replenish. All you had to do was ask one of the volunteers, who graciously checked on your table every 2-3 minutes asking if anyone needed to replenish or needed anything else. The company you shared with once you arrived at your table & started digging into your pancake meal, was a great delight. You sat where there was an open spot, great for meeting lots of new people. Everyone we saw left with a full belly & a big smile.

Did we mention the parking in the parking lot was probably the most challenging part of the event. The parking lot was packed, which is always a good thing right.

Here's a video we wanted to share with you, just in case you want to know what you missed or want to look forward to next year's event.

Spring is Near in The Mountains of Western NC

Finally, it appears that all of the snow has melted in our area. There was some stubborn areas sticking around at the higher elevations for the past few weeks. With temps in the 60's the last few days the white stuff can only be seen at Tony's Tubeworld and Cataloochee Ski resort. Yes, they are still playing in the snow at both of those locations.

With the warmer temps we are starting to see the tulips pop out of the ground and it is only a matter of time before we see all kinds of new growth in the mountains. It has been another tough winter, and we all are looking forward to a great tourist season here in Haywood County.

As always, there is a lot happening this year in the mountains so schedule your trip now to enjoy the spring, summer, or fall season.
