In a historic event, Governor Beverly Perdue this morning signed an amendment to the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians gaming compact allowing "live" dealers and table games at Harrah's Cherokee Casino.
The amended compact is a thirty year agreement. Under it's terms the Eastern Band will contribute over $60 million to the state's public school districts. A total of 400 new casino jobs will be created.
The N.C General Assembly will now need to amend state statutes to legally conform to the amended compact, which could occur while it is in session this week.
Further details will be forthcoming.
