Press Release Music Camp Supported by Young Singers Foundation
Waynesville, NC -- Voices in the Laurel's SummerVoice Music Camp will expand this year to become the Voices in the Laurel Summer Music Quest with funding from the Young Singers Foundation Grant from Sweet Adelines International. The grant's purpose is to support worthy projects which inspire children and youth to sing IN HARMONY with approved, highly qualified music instructors.
The camp will take place July 30 - August 3, from 8:45 a.m. -12:45 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Waynesville. Summer Music Quest is open to singers who will be entering 1st - 9th grades in the fall. They will be divided into age groups to participate in a variety of musical experiences. Campers will learn to sing with proper vocal technique and in two and three part harmony. In addition, groups will rotate through classes in mountain dulcimer, world drumming, and class guitar and piano. Some choral numbers will include choreography. The fun-filled week will end with a demonstration concert at noon. Cost is $85 per chorister and includes all music, snacks, professional instructors, a tee shirt...and 5 days of fun music-making!
Voices in the Laurel Summer Music Quest will feature outstanding professional music instructors approved by Sweet Adelines International. Martha Weathers Brown, founding Artistic Director of Voices in the Laurel, will conduct the choirs, assisted by Tim Stiles, who is a National Board certified music specialist, and Anna Watson, piano instructor and accompanist for Voices in the Laurel. Ann Lough, widely recognized for her teaching and virtuosic dulcimer playing, will teach mountain dulcimer, as well as accompany some of the choral pieces on hammered dulcimer. Sheila Sumter will be the camp choreographer. Other classes will include music theory and guitar.
