Voices in the Laurel Host Music Camp and Upcoming Auditions
Forty-seven young people played and sang their way through the week as Voices in the Laurel held its third annual summer music camp. Participants sang in small and large groups under the direction of Voices in the Laurel artistic director, Martha Brown. When they weren't singing, each child learned to play the mountain dulcimer with Anne Lough, and had his or her choice of class lessons in guitar, percussion or piano. The week ended with a demonstration performance from each of the instrument classes and a choral concert, complete with choreography. "I wish we could do it for more than a week," moaned 1st grade participant Miley Stover, sad the camp had come to an end.
Voices in the Laurel will continue its music making as the new choir season begins on August 14. The choir program consists of singers in 1st - 12thgrades that are divided into three choral ensembles. 1st and 2nd graders may join without an audition. Singers in 3rd through 12th grades must pass a musical audition. Open auditions will be held from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. on August 13 and 20, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Waynesville.
